Berkshire is suffering more unemployment than the average across the South East as well as the average across England and this has been the case for over a year now. The fluctuations in unemployment suggest that people are bouncing in and out of work, possibly reflecting the period between one short-term contract ending and another beginning. National reports indicate that those leaving the employment market completely has risen dramatically, further hiding the true levels of those without work.
However, there are positive news storing coming out of Berkshire, with new businesses opening and others sharing their plans for investment and expansion. This needs to be encouraged and nurtured as with this will come jobs and Berkshire and the country’s recovery.
